E-meeting with the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, temporarily replacing the Minister of Economy and Innovation, proposals in writing to the Government, compiling the list of Lithuanian producers of personal and medical protection production and provision of it for all relevant authorities, coverage of the difficult situation of apparel and textile industry in the media. These are only a few steps among all that Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association (LATIA) has taken.
Thus, since the middle of March, the Lithuanian Association of Apparel and Textile Companies has been seeking to mitigate the risks posed by the COVID-19 virus and the negative short and long-term consequences for business.
“In order to achieve change, we used all possible measures: we submitted a number of proposals on the formation of aid measures directly to the Government in writing, We made suggestions to the Minister Ž. Vaičiūnas during the e-meeting. One of our proposals to the Minister was to subsidize companies with a 1-month turnover in the form of a non-refundable subsidy to subsidize downtime or a utility tax exemption, or 2 months turnover is repayable within 3 years through state-guaranteed loans, guarantees, export insurance, ”says Kęstutis Daukšys, President of LATIA. "At the same time, we actively mediated the orders of LATIA members to produce personal protective equipment for the authorities and informed the public via the media about the difficult situation of the sector and our members today."
According to him, in the absence of the government in a hurry with the aid package, the results of the association's activities are gradually beginning to show. As suggested by LATIA and other business organizations, the government has already allocated 70 or 90 percent subsidies to employers from the employee's accrued salary depending on the amount of salary paid by the employer.
